Wegmans to Hold 'Everything Organic Festival'

PrintWegmans to Hold 'Everything Organic Festival'

Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans Food Markets announced the “Everything Organic Festival,” set to take place Jan. 21 and 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at all Wegmans locations.

The festival will highlight the more than 200 organic store brand items available in Wegmans stores. Samples span a wide array of categories, including bakery (multigrain baguette with all-natural peanut butter and jam), prepared foods (chicken dumplings, only on Jan. 21), deli (multigrain baguette with sliced turkey, only on Jan. 28), meat (cooked organic chicken breasts and ground beef), dairy (super yogurt and scrambled eggs), frozen (burritos and corn with butter) and seafood (farmed shrimp with bouillabaisse sauce, only on Jan. 28).

Customers will be able to test their knowledge of Wegmans’ organic products with a “Wheel of Fun” quiz, the retailer said. Winners will receive a basket of Wegmans products for the organic seasonal kitchen.

Meanwhile, a “Kids Station” will teach children about their favorite vegetables through coloring-table activities, Wegmans noted. Kids will be able to taste organic veggies dipped in Wegmans Organic Ranch Dressing, as well as get a tattoo of garden-friendly creatures such as ladybugs, worms and bees.

“Organic foods have moved into the mainstream,” said Denise Pearson, marketing group manager with Wegmans. “They’re all over the store — not just in the produce and Nature’s Marketplace aisles. There’s organic milk, juice, eggs, butter, toast and cereals for breakfast. For lunch, sandwiches made with organic bread and organic deli meats, or organic peanut butter and jam. For dinner, an organic salad mix with organic dressing, fresh or frozen organic veggies, organically raised meats and poultry. There’s even organic ice cream and organic sprinkles for dessert!”
